Matt Spalding of Hillsdale College and author Vivek Ramaswamy sit down at CPAC Florida 2022 to examine race relations and free speech in the United States. Ramaswamy, who is of Indian descent, is now dedicated to eradicating the cultural cancer of racial division that is encouraged by liberal ideologies like Critical Race Theory. He personally faced backlash after refusing to comment on systemic racism in light of the George Floyd incident, but Ramaswamy simply does not believe, out of his own experience, that America is inherently racist. In fact, he believes, and Spalding agrees, that the Left’s race ideology is diametrically opposed to the American Dream. Spalding reveals that his own research on the topic exposed this ideology, which places a person’s value on the color of his skin, to be closer to the racist thinking of Southern Confederates like John C. Calhoun.
Ramaswamy appeals for an end to the cancel culture that enables this liberal race ideology and suppresses conservative thought. Free speech is central to the American identity and the American Dream. Without free speech, wokeism is filling the hole the Millennial and younger generations have for a purpose and a cause. Ramaswamy exhorts conservatives to work harder to replace wokeism in that void with wholesome, rational, and patriotic values.
