Former Acting Director of National Intelligence, Ric Grenell, speaks at CPAC Florida 2022. Grenell draws from his experience both as Former Acting Director of National Intelligence and Former U.S. Ambassador to Germany to offer comments on diplomacy strategies. He argues that President Trump demonstrated confident, controlled, and most importantly, effective foreign policy. The contrast of President Biden and President Trump’s strategies unequivocally demonstrates the need for strong, America First diplomacy. Biden’s foreign policy has yielded the brutal deaths of innocents in Afghanistan, a Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the strengthening of China, while Trump put our adversaries under his thumb.

Grenell demands higher standards of the State Department under the Biden administration to rediscover their calling to stand up for American interests on the world stage. The State Department needs to incentivize, encourage, and teach muscular diplomacy. There are still diplomats wishing to use strong diplomacy measures, but they require the support of likewise strong leaders. That support starts from the very top of the administration and with major issues like the Nord Stream pipeline. The America First attitude in foreign policy is imperative now more than ever to restore the United States to a powerful position in the international setting.
