America UnCanceled: @RepBurgessOwens joins @mschlapp to Discuss the Fight to End Human Trafficking
Utah Representative Burgess Owens talks his role in fighting human trafficking on this episode of America Uncanceled with Matt Schlapp.
The issue of human trafficking has long been an important issue to Owens as he works to bring awareness to the hundreds of thousands of missing children and unaccompanied children crossing the southern border and to motivate the American people and their elected officials to action.
“We have this ideology that believes it’s ok to take advantage of the most innocent, and we unfortunately, have the disintegration of our family unit. You have to wonder, where are the dads? Where are they now to protect these children?”, Owens queries.
He values the authority that elected officials like himself hold to take steps toward ending this form of modern-day slavery, but recognizes that significant change will occur through a cultural shift among Americans to recognize human dignity and desire to protect the most vulnerable and innocent. CPAC’s new Center for Combating Human Trafficking is working with legislators like Owens and hoping to reach across the aisle to make human trafficking a bi-partisan issue.
