Former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Dr. Ben Carson, delivers remarks at CPAC DC 23 on the founding principles of the country. Carson emphasizes that the Founding Fathers always centered their debates, meetings, and documents around their Christian faith. Their faith informed the freedom and individualism, with which, they infused the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. Benjamin Franklin once answered a woman asking what he and his fellow representatives had created by saying, “A republic, ma’am, if you can keep it.” Again, he and his colleagues advised in The Federalist Papers that Americans must take initiative to preserve the republic of the United States. Carson notes that unity, limited government, and confidence in the individual are vital to the preservation of the country. Indeed, he states, “It is going to be we the people who have the courage to stand up”.
