Fred Pawle and Johannes Leak discuss comedy in Australian politics and, in particular Johannes’ father and Pawle’s co-worker, cartoonist Bill Leak. Pawle praises Leak’s humor and egalitarianism manifested in his numerous and various friendships. The younger Leak admires his father’s lack of pretentiousness and overall ordinariness. Tragically, Leak has been grossly misrepresented in Australian media as racist. Leak’s comments on race relationships became intentionally misconstrued as bigoted. In his craft, Leak pursued beauty in a traditional theory of art and sought to communicate truth through his work. His work conveyed messages of freedom, the beauty of the family unit, and personal responsibility.
