Do Not Pass Go: The Meaning of Monopoly in the Modern Era - CPAC FL 2021
American Conservative Union Executive Director Dan Schneider moderates a panel discussion at CPAC Florida 2021 with Colorado Representative Ken Buck and California Representative Darrell Issa. The panel takes up the issue of big tech monopolies. Anti-trust laws are in the works as the proposed solution to the monopolies just a few big tech companies over the digital world. Anti-trust laws would bust up these companies forcing them to splinter into more smaller entities, increasing competition artificially. Buck endorses these laws out of concern that these companies are simply too large and too popular to be diminished by competition that is not induced by the federal government. Issa states that regardless of the tactics, the tech monopolies immediately need to be busted up. They pose a point of vulnerability in national security as an opening for China to institute a surveillance state in the United States by controlling the majority of our digital media.
