It's Not About Us: @elaineebeck1 with @mercedesschlapp & @mschlapp
Matt and Mercedes Schlapp join Elaine Beck to discuss praying for the nation and Beck’s new program, We Are Not Enemies.
Beck describes We Are Not Enemies as “a grassroots effort for all companies, all people” to simply unite Americans in prayer.
Mercedes Schlapp offers the program as a solution to the searching many individuals are doing for meaning and a greater purpose amidst the trials of the modern world, “There’s a hunger for trying to understand what does God want from me and there’s a hunger to understand, ‘I see all this chaos around me. Nothing makes sense.’”
Matt Schlapp sees it as an opportunity to return to the tradition of thanksgiving and to strengthen our country by uniting it, “We’ve, I think, to rekindle this idea of thanksgiving and appreciation in America because think of the American story. Almost every one of us come from a lineage that came from somewhere else and most of them came here because they needed economic opportunity and religious freedom and America was this great, unique experiment where you could do that. They always used to tell us that this diversity from all over the place was our strength. Now, they’re trying to use that diversity to rip us apart.”
We Are Not Enemies is a free program just offering a community of prayer to uplift the country and heal wounds. It launches September 26 two months before the National Day of Forgiveness at wearenotenemies.com.
