It's Not About Us: The Sound of Freedom w/ @TimBallard
Elaine Beck interviews the real man behind the story of “Sound of Freedom” on this episode of It’s Not About Us. Tim Ballard was a Homeland Security Special Agent tasked with rescuing children from human trafficking and catching Americans participating in trafficking abroad. The movie follows the real story of when Ballard and a group of special agents decided not to return home after a bust but to follow the leads had to bust the people at the root of the system and rescue even more children. Ballard requested that he be portrayed by Jim Caviezel in the movie because he felt they had a similar faith and reliance on God.
“If I didn’t love Jesus, I couldn’t do anything I’m doing. So, I need an actor who would also say, ‘Without Jesus, he couldn’t do what he’s doing,” Ballard said. “I don’t trust Hollywood. I’m in business largely because of the crap Hollywood produce, and so who can I trust? Someone who’s in but not of Hollywood. Someone who loves Jesus very much. That’s Jim Caviezel.”
The movie showcases the art and craft of its makers by conveying the horrid reality of human trafficking without endangering the child actors and without explicitly depicting inappropriate scenarios. The movie is far more than a movie to entertain audiences, but a call to action for audiences. The end features a special message from Jim Caviezel that offers a way for audiences to get involved to end human trafficking.
