CPAC Chairman Matt Schlapp hosts a panel at CPAC Texas 2021 with Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt and Tennessee Governor Bill Lee. The panel takes up the issue of criminal justice reform. Reform is needed for the betterment of both criminals and the prison system Incarceration cost the states thirty thousand dollars per prisoner, placing a heavy burden on taxpayers. The prison systems are also failing to properly reform non-violent criminals and equip them with essential life skills that will transform them into productive citizens. In Lee’s state of Tennessee, one prison even incorporated a seminary inside to integrate religion into the rehabilitation of the prisoners. Conservatives like Stitt and Lee argue for reform while still respecting law enforcement. Tennessee and Oklahoma stand as examples for implementing criminal rehabilitation programs while supporting law enforcement and cutting taxes for citizens.
