Liberty and Justice: Matt Whitaker and Dave Sunday from CPAC DC 2023
Matt Whitaker and York County, Pennsylvania District Attorney Dave Sunday sit down at CPAC DC 2023 for a conversation about the fentanyl epidemic for this episode of Liberty & Justice.
Sunday takes a multi-pronged approach to addressing the fentanyl epidemic in York County, Pennsylvania, and has been fighting the opioid epidemic since 2014. He is nipping the issue in the bud with the help of law enforcement and prosecuting drug dealers. On another end of the issue, Sunday is caring for victims and advocating for addiction prevention through a nonprofit. The nonprofit provides support and treatment for addicts and their families as well as programs for local schools to educate children on the dangers and realities of drugs.
Still, Sunday can only mitigate the epidemic from his district because the source of the issue lies in China with fentanyl manufacturers and at the southern border where cartels are trafficking these drugs.
“The one constant in this entire battle that we’ve been waging is the fact that that constant change is taking place across our border, in a place far away that we have absolutely no control over whatsoever,” Sunday explains.
The crisis has been so impactful that, “You have an entire generation that know[s] nothing but suffering and addiction,” Sunday says.
The epidemic is evidence of a need for law enforcement in American communities and especially at the southern border to combat the illegal drug trade and protect future generations from experiencing the suffering the current generations have in watching loved ones become destroyed by addiction. Sunday encourages young Americans and new law school graduates to overcome the stigma on law enforcement peddled by the mainstream media and see it as an opportunity to serve and protect others.
