Liberty & Justice: Matt Whitaker Speaks At CPAC Australia
Matt Whitaker addresses CPAC Australia with a speech that marries Reagan conservatism and Trump’s America First approach into an overview of modern conservatism. Whitaker argues that America First ideas simply build upon the principles of Reagan and adapt them to the issues of today. The fundamental conservative principles of lower taxes, valuing human life, protecting law and order, strengthening the military and approaching national defense with a peace through strength attitude are consistent cornerstones of both the Reagan and Trump administration. The America First movement simply took those principles and applied them to contemporary issues like defund the police, international threats in China, Russia, and the Middle East, immigration at the southern border, and more. Again like the Reagan brand of conservatism, Whitaker points out, the America First movement of the Trump administration attracted blue-collar Americans to the Republican Party and conservative values.
“The number one principle of the America First agenda is economic prosperity for all, and that’s why, when I talk about those Reagan democrats that are now blue-collar Republicans, that’s the most important issue, and we should always be laser focused as policy makers on the American worker, just like your politicians should be focused on Australian workers,” Whitaker explains.
Though the conservative mindset prioritizes America, it has international relevance to hold our allies and other countries to a higher standard of freedom, independence, and prosperity. Whitaker lastly calls for Americans to back up their promises to our allies, such as, Australians, of being loyal friends who work together as equal, contributing partners to keep the world at peace.
