Ohio Representative Ken Buck addresses the crowd at CPAC Florida 2022 with a speech about censorship, cancel culture, and free speech. He shares an anecdote in which he witnessed MSNB declare him “World’s Worst American.” Rather than take offense to the title, Buck is grateful to live in a country that allows a diversity of ideas. America has fought against big government for the entirety of its existence and now the fight has intensified and shifted opponents. Today, conservatives are taking on big tech, the primary nemesis of free speech and the gatekeepers and manipulators of information. Facebook, Twitter, and Amazon are building a liberal monopoly on the dispersal of ideas. They are censoring opposing opinions, promoting ideologies and politicians of their choosing, and contributing to a culture of conformity. The conservative response should be creating alternative options to these companies, refusing big tech money, boycotting woke companies, and introducing legislation that regulates big tech monopolies.
