ROE OVERTURNED! Where the Pro-Life Movement Goes from Here — America Uncanceled
On this episode of America Uncanceled, Mercedes Schlapp welcomes Reverend Patrick Mahoney for a discussion on abortion and religious freedom with the recent Dobbs v. Jackson and Kennedy v. Bremerton rulings from the Supreme Court.
Reverend Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition and pro-life activists, was present at the Supreme Court on Friday, June 24 when the Dobbs v. Jackson ruling overturned Roe v. Wade. Mahoney describes his elation that a New York Times picture captured, “You see my face there, the happiness, the joy of realizing that no longer will our nation bear the scar of calling abortion violence a constitutional right.”
With the ruling, abortion is now a matter to be decided by individual states. Twenty-six states have already passed trigger laws restricting abortions and thirteen have passed laws completely banning abortion. Mahoney believes the next steps are to end chemical abortions, which are becoming the majority of abortions and are performed at home, and to support crisis pregnancy situations in practical, positive ways. “We are now in a position, where we’re not offering women the violence of abortion. We’re not treating women as a commodity. We are not diminishing human life. We are saying “Let’s come together as a nation and people,” and women who find themselves with unexpected pregnancies offer them quality medical care, practical health, and hope.”
Another landmark Supreme Court decision on the Kennedy v. Bremerton case is a win for religious liberty. According to Mahoney, this ruling is monumental for upholding our First Amendment rights, “Our constitution promises not freedom from religion but freedom of religion. It’s a significant victory. This now moves forward that says, even in the public square you do not have to surrender your First Amendment free speech and religious liberty.”
The recent Supreme Court decisions give conservatives glimmers of hope in the fight to save America but also open the door for further efforts to bring conservative back into American culture.
