Jim Agresti of Just Facts explains the philosophy of epistemology and how it can be employed in the modern, technological age to understand the ideas influencing public policy.
Agresti’s organization, Just Facts, is dedicated to epistemology, the study of knowledge through extensive research and investigation. Just Facts brings to light the truth behind prominent legislation and policies and teaches Americans how to uncover the truth for themselves.
Agresti believes in the importance of investigation into public policy because of his own surprise at how little thought and how much moral relativism drives modern public policy.
Agresti explains his shock upon entering politics from the helicopter building industry, “I was stunned by how little factual backing a lot of these public policies have for them. When I’m designing jet engines, I’m thinking, ‘If I don’t do my job right, somebody could die.’ Well, the same happens in politics, but there’s so little care given to the actual facts, it’s staggering.’”
The availability of primary sources on the internet makes the pursuit of truth easier than ever for the average person. Just Facts promotes independent and critical thinking that takes advantage of the accessibility of information through modern technology so that Americans understand what policies and legislation really mean, what influenced them, and how they impact Americans’ lives.
