The Red Menace Comes to the Americas

Member of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, Eduardo Bolsonaro and founder of Movimiento Viva Mexico, Eduardo Verastegui, sit on a panel moderated by Mercedes Schlapp at CPAC 2023 for a conversation about the encroachment of communism upon Latin America. As Verastegui describes it, “Socialism is spreading like wildfire.” It is a “cancer” that is overtaking Latin American countries, making them sick with corruption and poverty. China is taking advantage of the state of these countries and exerting influence over them, using their ports and dealing with cartels to funnel drugs into the United States and enable human trafficking. Bolsonaro sees this happening in his country, Brazil’s, neighbors and Brazil itself. It is creating a dangerous situation for Brazil that is difficult to escape. The weak leadership of the current American administration is making matters worse for Latin America. A strong American president, like Donald Trump, deterred Chinese involvement in South and Central America, but now communism and socialism is running rampant and systematically destroying law and order in those countries.
