Former Iowa state representative and founder of RunGenZ Joe Mitchell talks youth in the conservative movement and the place of the RNC in the current conservative movement.
Mitchell’s experience on a newly-formed youth-centered branch of the RNC encapsulates the disunity of the Republican Party and the deep rift that exists between the Washington, D.C. establishment and grassroots conservatives. The Youth Advisory Council resulted in stagnant dysfunction with meetings that failed to identify and work towards goals and unite with other large conservative youth organizations.
“If this is happening with the youth advisory council, it’s probably happening with other committees that the RNC has,” Mitchell reasons. “This is a time to unite. Clearly, they didn’t want to unite.”
This reasoning has driven him to bring awareness to the dysfunction in order to fix these issues so that the conservative movement can have better youth outreach efforts. Mitchell recognizes that the Right is far behind the Left in utilizing social channels and digital media to communicate with younger generations and is working with organizations like Turning Point and AmericaFest that are producing tangible results in youth engagement.
