TX Lt. Governor Dan Patrick Joins Liberty & Justice with Matt Whitaker
On this episode of Liberty & Justice, Matt Whitaker interviews Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick. As Lieutenant Governor, Patrick acts as a majority leader in the Texas House of Representatives, appointing members and chairs of committees. Patrick plans to lead the state legislature this term into responsible use of the state’s $50 billion budget surplus.
Patrick looks to improve Texas’ infrastructure and deconstruct green new deal infrastructure that failed the state and caused people to perish in the winter event of 2021. Patrick prefers to invest in lasting improvements, such as energy and utilities, that do not require costly, annual bills.
“The budget we’ve introduced, Matt, our big dollars are one time investments. When we decide to give raises to teachers, when we decide to put more money into law enforcement, property tax cuts, we have to be sure we can maintain that,” Patrick explains the process of managing a state’s budget.
State budgets are a stark contrast to the federal budget. Patrick estimates that every state except Vermont balances their budgets while Congress relentlessly increases the national debt exponentially. Texas is proud to have managed its spending responsibly thanks to its large Republican majority. Patrick assures that Texas is still a Republican state despite the influx of Californians and urges those transplants to see the reason for Texas’ success and ditch their liberal policies at the state line.
